St. Pius X Athletic Association

Parent Code of Conduct

The essential elements of character building and ethics in athletics are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship. The highest potential of athletics is achieved when competition reflects these "six pillars of character".

This code of conduct embodies those six core concepts as well as the philosophy of the Positive Coaching Alliance.  Therefore I agree to the following:

1. I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices.

2. I will never question, discuss or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak to coaches at an agreed upon time and place as pre-determined by an email or phone call.   If I have a problem with a coach, I will discuss my concerns with that individual in hopes of conflict resolution.  If the problem is not solved then I will inform the Athletic Director.  If the Athletic Director is unable to solve the conflict then and only then should the Principal be brought in to solve the conflict.

3. I will remember that student athletes participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.

4. I will teach my child that doing one's best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his or her performance.

5. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.

6. I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the student athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my own child to win.

7. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the student athletes.

8. I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, scorekeepers, officials, spectators, athletic directors, and gym monitors at every game, practice or sporting event. I understand that if I am being unruly, that my child’s head coach, the official(s), or a gym administrator has the power to remove my presence from the playing field.

9. I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing or taunting, or using profane language or gestures.

10. I understand that any violation of this code of conduct will be cause for dismissal, suspension, or permanent expulsion from future athletic contests.

I have read, understand, and agree to the Parent Code of Conduct with St. Pius X Parish School at all sporting events:
